Katy Perry Talks Freedom & Fireworks on 4th of July

A decked out Katy Perry got ready for her performance at the Macy’s 4th of July Spectacular in New York City this afternoon (July 4) and talked about why she’s proud to be an American.

The 27-year-old performer discussed her thoughts on Independence Day saying that it’s a time to “celebrate our freedom, which is really important and something we don’t think about because we live in America.”

She also revealed the inspiration behind one of her biggest hits adding, “‘Firework,’ the song, is inspired by literal fireworks. They always make you excited and they’re glittering and sparkling and that’s the kind of person I want to be.”

In other news, Miss Perry’s new film “Part of Me” releases in theaters tomorrow (July 5) and shared her excitement via Twitter this afternoon penning, “U READY!? Get your tickets for OPENING DAY of my #KP3D Movie! Let's OWN the night like the 4th of July kittens!”
